Marilyn Yvonne (Lewis) Holsworth, 77, passed away April 28, 2025, in Independence, MO. Marilyn had failing health the last few years and passed away while in hospice care. She was born and raised in Independence where she graduated from William Chrisman High School. For many years she organized and hosted the Class of ’65 reunions around town and in her own backyard. She was a jack of all trades having had a career at Armco Steel (GST), VFW Post 1000, Independence RV Parts (family business), and most recently at the Wild Birds store. She was never short on resourcefulness to make ends meet or to pay for her next adventure by “couponing” or working other part-time jobs. Marilyn was an avid Elvis fan, taking several trips to Graceland and had a collection of jackets, shirts, and other memorabilia to showcase her favorite artist. She enjoyed entertaining, collectibles, traveling, gardening, bird watching, and being home with her cats, aka her “kids”.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents James and Ana Mae Lewis, parents Roy and Olive Lewis, husband Gary Holsworth, brothers Phillip and Melvyn Lewis, and two nephews Richard and Michael Lewis.
Marilyn is survived by her only child, Tiffany (Smith) Davis and her husband George Davis, grandchildren Kiersten Bruster, Nathan (Grace) Davis, and Erin Davis, great-grandsons Beau Bruster, Llewyn Davis, Abel Davis, and Iver Davis; her brother Delbert Lewis, two nieces and four nephews, and her beloved cats Thumper, Butthead, and Orangeade.
There will be no services at Marilyn’s request following Cremation. A Celebration of Life will be at McCoy Park Pavilion (800 N Northwest Pkwy, Independence) on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wear your favorite Elvis attire in Marilyn’s memory.
My husband Gary Barker worked at Armco Steel for a few years, we shopped at Wild Bird, and I was a member of VFW Aux 1000 until we moved to NW MO. Strange our paths crossed but we didn’t connect with her. She was a beautiful lady, inside and out, touched many people’s hearts. Our deepest sympathies are with you and your family in this time of loss. Jan Moore Barker class 67; Gary Barker class 65.
