Mary Alice Price

Mary Alice Price, 83, of Raytown, Missouri, died peacefully on July 30th, 2026.

She was born in Topeka, Kansas in 1942 to Willa Mae (Alcorn) and Leo Baker. Mary attended East High School in Kansas City, Missouri and eventually went to work as a Public Health Service Corps Recruiter. During her time in that occupation, she travelled with doctors and placed them in medical deserts to serve the most vulnerable. She worked her way up from being a secretary to a respected member in her field.

Mary had a servant’s heart. She cared for all that came her way, whether it was the mail carrier in her neighborhood or the kids who shared a shift with her at Hy-Vee in the evening. Food was one of her love languages. She always had drinks and sandwiches for the mail carrier and cookies and chips for the kids waiting in the floral department. She embodied comfort, joy, and warmth.

She was a fierce advocate and caretaker of her family which included her husband Bill and her two children, Andrea and Tommy. Andrea “Ann” or “Sis” considered her mother to be her best friend, rock, and a safe place to always come back to. Mary deeply loved her husband Bill. They were both known to have a strong work ethic but never forgot to set time aside for fun times in the bowling alley, fishing, or traveling. They were a couple who walked through fire together, especially after the death of their son Tommy, her breast cancer diagnosis, and Bill’s illnesses. Along came Jay as her son-in-law in 1989 whom she adored greatly and her granddaughter Kate, who was inseparable with her grammy until the end.

Mary was preceded in death by her Mother, Willa Mae and Father Leo, brothers Wendall and Gary, along with her son Thomas. She is survived by her daughter and close confidant Andrea Bergmann, son-in-law Jay Bergmann, granddaughter Kate Bergmann. A celebration of life will be held with close family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.
