Mary Elyse Saft died at home late Saturday, January 28, 2012 following a struggle with breast cancer. She was born on November 29, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the firstborn child of Kathryn (Radecke) and Edward Anthony Feehan. The family moved to the Kansas City area when Mary was about ten years old. She graduated from Guardian Angels School, Southwest High School (1950) and St. Mary College School of Nursing/Providence Hospital (1953). In 1991, she received a BS Degree in Health Arts from St. Francis Hospital in Joliet, Illinois. She was employed in the nursing department of St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO, for 25 years, mostly in the Intensive Care Unit. Survivors include daughters, Sara Pennington and Ruth Ann England of this area and sons David Beatty (Mon) also of this area and Mark Henry Saft (Kanya) of Tokyo, Japan. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jason Pennington; Scott, Christopher and Blake England; Dennis Beatty; Asha Leilani and Jade Seraphina Saft. Mary is also survived by her sister, Karen (Fred) Rieger and a brother, Phil (Joann) Feehan of this area and by a brother Dr. Edward (Brenda) Feehan of Merced, CA. Mary had many interests, first and foremost being “Mema” to her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, flowers, gardening and antiques. She formed close, long-lasting friendships and these friends provided support for her during her final illness. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 1, at Guardian Angels Church at 1310 Westport Road in Kansas City, MO. There will be visitation preceding Mass for one hour beginning at 11 a.m.
