Mary Helen Wyble

Mary Helen Wyble age 72, known to her friends and family as Toby and on the odd occasion as Merrie Wobbly, passed away surrounded by family in her home on August 30, 2020.
Born in Gorin, MO to Cash and Juanita Wyble, her father was the local Methodist minister. Growing up as a minister’s kid Toby moved around rural Missouri quite a bit during her early years. Some of her father’s passion for serving the community must have made an impression because ultimately Toby chose to study social work at William Jewel obtaining a bachelor’s degree. She even went on to receive her Master’s degree at Central Missouri State University.
After school, Toby joined the staff at Clay County Juvenile. She started as a probation officer, but quickly moved up to Supervisor of the Abuse & Neglect Unit. As supervisor Toby not only served the families of Clay County, she also provided training for Court Appointed Special Advocates to be the voice of abused and neglected children. She spent an extraordinary 43 years here before retiring to spend more time with her family.
In the summer of 1988 Toby met Carol Sorensen and her two daughters Amy and Lisa. She became a member of the family immediately. Toby and Carol were married August 2015 after being together for 25 years.  Toby was never one to be idle and was a natural caregiver. She was always there to support her family, whether it was doing work around the house, cheering the grandsons on at soccer games, giving rides to school, sewing blankets and outfits for the new baby, or mowing the lawn. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she loved taking her sister Roxie and nephew DeJuan out to tour the holiday lights displays. Even when she was just relaxing watching her favorite shows, she would be knitting hats and scarves for the church’s outreach programs. We are still not sure how she did it all!
Toby is sorely missed and survived by her wife Carol Sorensen, daughter and son-in-law Amy & Kenny Peterson, grandsons Sam Logan Jr. and Andrew Peterson, daughter Lisa Sorensen, sister and brother-in-law Thelma & Larry Linville, brother in law Howard MIlls, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations to Red Bridge United Methodist Church’s charitable funds would be appreciated, this was one of Toby’s favorite ways to help out the community. Thank you.

That was a beautiful tribute to Toby’s life. I never knew all just thinks that she did. Thinking and praying for you.
