Mary Jane “Janie” Faibian
August 22, 1949 – December 1, 2025
Mary Jane “Janie” Faibian, 76, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at Seasons Rehab and Healthcare Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with her son Andrew by her side. Janie was a Christian.
Mary Jane was born on August 22, 1949, in Bolivar, Missouri, to William Mitchell Durham and Mary John Foster Durham. She was one of ten children.After working as a waitress and graduating from high school in Independence, Missouri, she met and married Charles H. Benedict Sr. in 1968. Charles brought his two children from his first marriage, Veronica and Jeffery, to live with them until their teenage years. Together, Mary Jane and Charles welcomed two sons, Charles H. “Buddy” Benedict Jr. and Andrew Joseph “Andy” Benedict.
In 1986, she was married to Robert “Bob” Scott. In 1992, she married Edward “Ed” Faibian.
Janie worked for many years at Merritt Foods in Kansas City, Missouri.She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, tending to flowers, working crossword puzzles, sewing, listening to 1960s rock and roll and country music, and watching Dr. Pol on television. Janie loved to dance and was also known for having a bit of a “lead foot.”Many Saturday nights were spent in the pits at the old I-70 Speedway with Ed and her son Buddy and his race car. In later years, she could be found at Valley Speedway and Central Missouri Speedway, proudly supporting her son Andy and his racing endeavors.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband Ed Faibian, her parents, brothers Billy Lee Durham Jr., William Joe Durham, Johnie Mack Durham, Dennis Dill, Donald Cook and Randy Cook.
Janie is survived by her sister Betty King (Danny) Blue Springs, Missouri, brothers Leonard I. Durham (Connie) Blue Springs, Missouri and Jerry W. Durham (Susan) Independence, Missouri. Also surviving are sons Charles H. Benedict Jr. (Jessica) Buckner, Missouri and Andrew J. Benedict Independence, Missouri. Grandchildren Dalton Benedict, Ailey Benedict, Tyler Benedict (Katelyn) and Shelby Benedict (Connor). Great-Grandchildren Mylah Benedict and Myles Dawson. Along with many nieces and nephews.
In respect to Janie’s wishes she will not have a service and her ashes will be scattered in a beautiful flower garden come Spring.
