Matthew Lee Decker

Matthew Lee Decker was born December 25, 1966 to Verbin Decker and Andrea Chapman in Oklahoma City, OK. Matthew passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at home in Grandview, MO.

Matthew’s father preceded him in death. Survivors include his mother, Andrea Driller of Grandview; sister, Tiffany and her husband John Edmondson of Kansas City, MO; his beloved and constant companion of 11 years his blue healer, Sky; aunts and uncles Sharon Carroccia of Northfield, NJ, John Chapman of Kansas City, MO, Paul Chapman of Philadelphia, PA, Mark Chapman of Kansas City, MO, Aimee Harness of Grandview, MO, Edwina Burns of Michigan; cousins Major T. Chapman of Lawrence, KS, Chris Decker of Denver, CO, and many other cousins and friends.

Matthew was known as the “Pepper Guy” at the Grandview Farmer’s Market and in regional networks because of his expertise in exotic hot peppers of many varieties as well as specialty herbs and spices and cactus plants. He was very proud of his Oklahoma background, enjoyed gourmet cooking, hunting, fishing, and the beauty and solace of nature. His previous training and career was in welding and working in the oil fields.

While Matthew was comfortable in solitude, he was also known for his “country boy” charm with a polite, humorous, helpful attitude that included people of varied interests and personalities in his circle of friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1 at 6pm with Memorial Service at 7pm at Grandview United Methodist Church, 12613 Grandview Road, Grandview MO 64030. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Kansas City Pet Project www.kcpetproject.org.
