Mattie Lee Thomas

Mattie Lee Thomas, 75, Raytown, MO passed away May 20, 2012 at Hidden Lakes Nursing Home from natural causes.  A visitation will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO.  Funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with burial at Brooking Cemetery in Raytown.  Mrs. Thomas was born April 28, 1937 in Eudora, Arkansas.  Born Mattie Lee Cole, she grew up in the country picking cotton until graduation from the Eudora “Colored” School in 1957.  She came to Kansas City, MO and married Charlie Thomas.  She worked for years at St. Joseph Hospital as a nurse and graduated from nursing school.  She worked at local cleaners  and Hugg Toy Factory.  Mattie retired due to her health.  Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Thomas; parents, Paul and Fannie Cole; and siblings, Mamie Strong, Charlie Cole, Jessie Cole, Albert Cole, John P. Coates and Olivia Coates.  Survivors include her children, Greg Thomas, Myron Thomas, Marquitia Thomas Harrell; and her sister, Elizabeth Cole.  Memorial contributions may be made to KC Hospice, KC FCA Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and/or River of Refuge Dream Center.
