Meghan Julie Stephens

Meghan Julie Stephens died on September 30, 2018.  A graveside memorial service will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Moberly on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 1 pm.

Meghan is the daughter of Temple Stephens, Jr. and Dee Stephens. She was born at the University of Missouri Medical Center in 1969. She was born prematurely and was one of the first babies cared for in the neo-natal unit at the Medical Center.

She lived in Moberly until 1979 when she moved to Columbia with her family.  She graduated from Rock Bridge Senior High School in Columbia after studying for one year at a high school in France.

She attended Stephens College and received a bachelor’s degree from Boston University.  She studied law at the University of Tulsa.  She worked for the Missouri Attorney General’s Office in Jefferson City and worked for several law firms.  The happiest times in her career were the year she spent teaching English in China, and when she worked at RAIN Healthcare, helping people deal with challenges in their personal lives.

Meghan loved people and dogs. She was generous, and she loved to cook.  Barbecued ribs were her specialty.   She was an optimist, but she struggled with failing health in recent years.

She is survived by her mother, Dee Stephens, and her sister Temple Ann and her brothers Garland and Andrew.

Memorial contributions can be made to Spectrum Healthcare, formerly RAIN (Regional AIDS Interfaith Network) of Central Missouri, where Meghan greatly enjoyed using her talents to assist those in need.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heartland Cremation & Burial Society of Columbia.

To the parents of Meghan Stephens,

I attended University of Tulsa Law with your daughter Meghan from 1991 when we began law school until 1994 when we graduated. We became best friends instantly and spent every day hanging out and studying together. We had a large group of friends and we all had such a special bond. She was so amazing and I had never met anyone like her. We spent countless hours together. Then we graduated and we all moved on. I lost track of her as I got married and spent my time building my practice and raising my kids. I’m sorry I lost touch with such an amazing girl! I touched base with an old law school friend of ours John who told me she had passsed. I was telling my 20 year old daughter about how special she was and my daughter googled her and found this and shared it with me. I am so sorry I didn’t reconnect with her after law school. I lost a son in December of 2017 and somehow I feel that they have found each other! I loved her and just please be comforted in knowing she is in a better place with my son! I could go on and on about her. If you want to reach out to me please do!
