Melitta McClanahan, age 79, of Raytown, MO died February 12, 2011 at the KC Hospice House from complications due to lung cancer. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 on Thursday, February 17th, at Heartland Cremation, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO. A private graveside burial will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or KC Hospice. Born June 30, 1931 in Nurnberg, Germany, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Fronhofer. It was there that she met and married her husband, William “Bill” McClanahan, an American soldier stationed in Germany. In 1950, as a young war bride and mother, she followed her husband, Bill in his military service and settled in Clarksville, Tennessee. Shortly thereafter, Melitta and Bill moved to the KC area, and settled in Raytown, MO. She worked many years for, and eventually retired from Allstate Insurance Company. After her retirement, Melitta and Bill enjoyed traveling, particularly her return trips to Germany to visit her family, and their second home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Melitta enjoyed reading good mysteries, solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, gambling at the local casinos, shopping the bargain racks, and swimming at the YMCA. Melitta is preceded in death by her son, Charles Wayne; her parents; and sister. Melitta is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Bill McClanahan; her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Linda and Jeff Seybert; her loyal canine companion, Toby; and many other loving family members and dear friends. (Arr. Heartland Cremation & Burial Society 816-313-1677)
