Melva Rapp

Melva Maples Rapp, 73, of Overland Park, KS, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Sunrise Senior Living. A Memorial gathering will be held Sunday, August 30 at 1:00 pm followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 pm at Blue Valley Baptist Church. Interment will be at Stover Cemetery in Stover, Missouri on Monday, August 31. Melva was born March 25, 1936 in Henrietta, MO, the daughter of Fred and Lola (Foster) Maples. She was a 1954 graduate of Versailles High School in Versailles, MO. She married her high school sweetheart, Hugh Rapp on October 16, 1955 and they have lived in the metro area since that time. Melva worked for Hallmark Cards as a credit representative and received the coveted R.B. Hall Award in 1978. She was a faithful member of Nall Avenue Baptist Church and later Blue Valley Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday school, helped with VBS and was on the finance and memorial committees. Survivors include her husband, Hugh Rapp, two sons, Dennis (Brenda) Rapp of Stilwell, KS and Jim (Susan) Rapp of St. Joseph, MO, one brother Fred (Elizabeth) R. Maples of Independence, MO and five grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Valley Baptist Church at 8925 W. 151, Overland Park, KS 66221 or Care Alternatives at 1420 N.W. Vivion Rd., Ste. 105, Kansas City, MO 64118. Melva was a loving wife, caring mother, fabulous grandmother and a steadfast friend. She was a wonderful example of a life well lived.
