Melvin Strabala, 71, Kansas City, MO, passed away January 3, 2013 at Centerpoint Medical Center.Mr. Strabala was born Dec. 21, 1941 in Iowa City, IA to John and Clementine Strabala. Melvin was a proud member of the IBEW Local 288, he enjoyed dancing, camping, playing the drums, spending time with family and friends and he took pride in being able to fix anything. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 siblings; Joan, Jack and Joe. He is survived by his significant other Maxine Nigro of the home, his two children; Gregory Strabala of Reno, NV, and Angelia (Todd) Happel of Cedar Rapids, IA, grandchildren; Katelyn, Emily, Amanda, Faith, and Grace, siblings; Theresa, Marina, Bill, Mary, Jim, Kathy, Don, Jane, and David, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM, Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Moose Lodge #10, 510 ½ N. Sterling Ave., Sugar Creek, MO 64054. The family will gather for fellowship following the service.

I was so sorry to hear about Mel. I remember him dropping Jane and me off at St. Mary’s Church, and thinking he drove just like my brother, Martin.
