Michael Dean Robertson

Michael Dean Robertson, 53, passed away at home February 27, 2024 after a short but tough battle with lung cancer. Mike was born March 21, 1970 in Sacramento, California on Mather Air Force Base to Donald Dean and Mary Kay (Konecny) Robertson. With his father being a mechanic in the air force, Mike moved frequently throughout his childhood, however the family eventually settled in Rolla, Missouri where his mother began working at Walmart. She would soon be transferred to Jacksonville, Florida where Mike began his own Walmart career starting as a part time cart pusher at Store 1172. After a few years in various roles, Mike entered the management trainee program at Mexico, Missouri in 1993 and would go on to transfer into all different leadership roles across many different stores throughout the years, always leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with. Recently celebrating his 35 year anniversary with the company, work was never just a job to Mike. Above all else, personal fulfillment came to him from seeing the young men and women he worked with and trained go on to become successful leaders themselves. In what little spare time Mike did have, he enjoyed powder coating and spending time with his loved ones and his cats.

Mike is proceeded in death by Chad Dean Robertson (a half-brother who died in infancy), uncles Paul Robertson and Don Konecny, and aunt Lodi (Konecny) Hotz.
Survivors include his parents Don Robertson (Linda) and Mary Rehklau (Richard); wife Jo Robertson; daughters Shella Robertson, Mikayla Robertson (Brad Hultz), and Grace Robertson (Brian Heflin); sisters Mindy Davis and Cindy Larson (Brian); half-sister Doneta Morgan; nieces Lauren Davis and Kate Larson; his partner Katie Dyer; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to kc pet project of Kansas City by following this link https://kcpetproject.org/donate/ or your local animal shelter in support of Mike’s love of animals.

I never met Mike, but we talked on the phone for hours sometimes. He was a powder coating mentor that I looked up to. He talked me through not only work related things but also personal issues I had. Mike will be missed and I feel for your loss. My prayers go to his family. A good man was lost before his time.
