Michael “Mike” J. Lassen, Sr.

Michael “Mike” J. Lassen Sr., 73 of Independence, Missouri passed on to eternal life at 9:14pm on Easter Sunday April 20th, 2025. Mike was born February 25th, 1952, to Kathaline and Robert Lassen of Elyria, Ohio. He grew up in Elyria, Ohio and attended the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Elyria and later in Kirtland, Ohio.

He spent much of his working career as a Journeyman Pipefitter/Steamfitter for General Motors in Sandusky and Cleveland, Ohio until his eventual retirement in 2016.

During that time, he married Jean (Nonnamaker), and they had three children, Michael “Mick” John Jr., in 1971, Troy Micah in 1972, and Jared Curtis in 1981.

After his retirement, he wanted to gather in Independence and be amongst a large presence of the church in the area where he attended Living Hope Restoration Branch.

Mike was preceded in death by both of his parents, a sister Debbie Finger, his brother Tim Lassen, and daughter-in-law Tanya Lassen. He is survived by his brothers, Bob Lassen and Jim Lassen, three sons, Michael Lassen, Troy (Melody) Lassen, and Jared Lassen, his six grandchildren Reace Lassen, Harmony (Lassen) Laughlin and her husband Logan Laughlin, Aubrey Lassen, Julia Lassen, Faith Lassen, Joyana Lassen, and Raina Lassen and his two great grandchildren Winona Laughlin and Alighieri Laughlin.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Mike on May 8, 2025, at 7pm, at Living Hope Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ at 2425 S. Crysler Ave. Independence, MO

    I’m so sorry to hear about Mike’s passing. I always enjoyed talking to him after prayer meetings. He was calm, kind, humble, and had a great faith.
