Michael Raymond Davenport

Michael Raymond Davenport, 62, of Raytown

The Tehachapi Mountains in California held a special place in the life of Michael Raymond Davenport; they shaped who he was, the activities he loved, and much of what he passed down to his three children.  Born August 10, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri, Mike grew up in California, often visiting the vast outdoor haven known as Old West Ranch, located just outside of the small mountain town of Tehachapi.  A Navy veteran, Mike found a calling in creating and building, working many years as a sheet metal mechanic for Northrop, utilizing technology now considered pre-historic.  Eventually, he found his way, along with his wife and three children, and established the home he dreamed of, within Old West Ranch.  It was here, Mike felt at home, tinkering with machines and contraptions in never-ending projects, helping his children with 4-H and FFA projects, and enjoying quad rides exploring all the mountains had to offer, especially the fresh mountain air.  The time spent in Tehachapi was not as long as Mike would have liked and he and his family made the difficult decision to relocate to the Kansas City area in 1995.  A myriad of health complications impacted Mike’s life in his later years, during which time he dedicated more time to his love of fishing.  Mike leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Kathryn, his mother Marjorie, his brother Dennis, his three children Shane (Kathleen), Kelly, and Kayla (Patrick), three cherished grandchildren Amanda Marie, Aaron Michael, and Hailey Elizabeth, his two beloved dogs Holly and Piper, and numerous friends nationwide.  Mike was preceded in death by his father, Gene, and his beloved dog, Maggie.  Interment services with military honors will take place at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
