Mitchell Gregg Slobin was born May 10, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York and passed away at home in Kansas City, MO on July 8, 2016. He is predeceased by his mother, Carole Komito Slobin, formerly of Las Vegas, NV. Mitchell is survived by his father, Martin Slobin of Kansas City, MO; son, Ian Slobin of Tampa, FL; daughter, Jeni Slobin, and granddaughter, Carolena Mendoza of Shawnee Mission, KS; daughter, Brooke Slobin of Spring Lake, NJ; long-time girlfriend and domestic partner, Susan Conklin, of Kansas City, MO; sister, Lori Saltzman of Chicago, IL; and her sons Andrew Saltzman and Doug Saltzman, also of Chicago.
Mitch began his career as a professional drummer in New York City and had many wonderful stories to tell from that era. Later he worked construction, owned a small vending business, and was a produce manager at a local grocery store. He had a ready smile for everyone he met, and his warmth, kindness, and cheerful attitude touched many people’s lives. Mitch’s hobbies included camping, canoeing, and collecting reptiles. He was active in several tortoise and lizard organizations on social media and enjoyed taking pictures and video to post online. He is survived by his 22 yr. old, 100 lb. Sulcata tortoise, Homer.
Our condolences go out to Marty, Mitchell’s children, Lori and his granddaughter.
We have very fond memories of him as a child and entering the music business when the family lived in Canarsie, NY.
We are sorry for the void his passing will bring to his family and friends.
Sorry to hear of Mitch’s passing , Many years ago I worked as a Band Boy, mostly helping Mitch setting up and breaking down the drum kit I was learning drums at the time , I never had a big brother and he was the closest I got to having one . He was a stand up guy, and a great drummer He also was very funny ,, Will never forget him
