Norbert Polus

Norbert Polus was the first born son of Anthony and Verna Puroll Polus. He came into the world February 16, 1935 in Detroit. Brother Ronald Polus joined the family in 1937. As a youth, Norb was an avid outdoorsman, making frequent hunting trips to uncle Walter’s northern Michigan farm with his friend “Burns”.

Norb lived with the family in Detroit until 1955 when he entered the US Army. He served in Korea as a Construction Foreman in the 44th Engineering Battalion.

After his military service, Norb worked as an engineer on such projects as new model designs for General Motors. He loved the outdoors, and in 1969 he purchased a farm in rural Nashville, Michigan. He cherished his 115 acres where he raised cattle, hogs, chickens, and row crops. Later he added an auctioneer business and a real estate brokerage to his pursuits. In September, 1983 he married Doris Cowick.

Norb spent much time pursuing another love, reading. He devoted much time to reading newspapers, hunting and fishing magazines, and history. He also enjoyed sharing with others the wealth of knowledge he gained from reading.

In 2009, failing health forced him to retire from farming. He and Doris relocated to Clinton, Missouri. Close to the lake, he enjoyed fishing and boating with the grandchildren. Truly the man may be taken out of the farm, but the farm may never be taken out of the man. Even in retirement Norb raised chickens and a garden.

His wife of 28 years, Doris, survives along with children Mike Stephenson and Tami, and Tammy Guss; grandchildren Matthew Stephenson, Mitchell Jeck and Dionne, Jennifer Jensen and Aaron, Anthony Guss and Tiffany, Jeremy Stephenson and Patty, and Rachel Stephenson; great grandchildren Joshua, Piper, Moroni, Annabelle, and Helaman. His brother Ronald Polus and Carole, nephew, Ronald, and niece, Susan also survive.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A visitation will be held at 10;00 am and funeral services following at 11am Tuesday July 5th, at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO (816-313-1677)
