She grew up in Bradner and attended the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She attended Graceland College in Lamoni Iowa in 1965-66 and went into the nursing program at the Independence Sanitarium School of Nursing in 1966-69.
After she graduated she married William (Bill) Alvie Barrett whom she met at Graceland. He was from Albuquerque New Mexico and they moved there where she put Bill through his last year of Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. When Bill graduated they moved to Bradner Ohio and she went to work at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green Ohio from 1970 to 1995 becoming the Director of the Emergency Department (ED). While at Wood County Hospital she helped expand the ED from a few beds to 14 beds.
In 1995 she and her husband wanted to gather to Independence Mo. And was immediately blessed with a job at Independence Regional Hospital who wanted to expand their ED. She soon became the director of the ED at Independence Regional, and also MCI (Medical Center of Independence), and of the new hospital – Centerpoint Medical Center (CMC). She even helped design the physical building of the ED, telling the architects what was needed in the way of flow and storage facilities for the department.
She retired from CMC in 2009 and became the volunteer head nurse at the church’s local school – Centerplace Restoration School (CPRS) until 2022.

There will be a memorial service for Pam on Saturday Feb. 22 at 10am at Living Hope Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ at 2425 S. Crysler Ave. Independence Mo. 64055.
I have so many fond memories of Pam, most were while singing with her and Bill. The most memorable time was when we were in at the Passion Play in Eureka Springs, AR. Several of us, Pam included, started singing restoration songs as we were between scenes on the tour of the holy land. It was a moving, spiritual experience. She is such a kindred soul to me, I look forward to singing with her in the choirs of heaven.
I loved (love) Pam. She had such a calming and confident countenance. The last time I saw her was at a memorial service. She gave me a acknowledging and loving glance as she excited down the isle and passed by my pew. It made me happy! I never got to spend much time with Pam but I hope to make up that for that time in Zion!
Pam was such a wonderful sister in Jesus Christ. She not only was the wonderful Treasurer at Living Hope, but a great counselor to help with our personal finances. Her wonderful testimony of Jesus in her life was so encouraging to all of us.
Pam Barrett was an amazing woman of God. I looked up to her and her family. They both did an amazing job raising Mike and melody it shows in their character.
If possible we will coming back for her funeral from Kentucky to show our respect and to love on those hurting with us.
I pray for comfort for the family during this difficult time, but rejoice in Gods plan and the hope we have as believers in Christ this is Gods path we know why he wanted her because she is pretty awesome.
Thank you sweet lady for showing me a path to trust and stay on. I will miss you and look forward to seeing you again one day.
Several years ago, I had a spiritual experience with Pam that I will never forget. Pam spoke at a church meeting about the Love that God has for us and all mankind. We looked at each other at the same time and had a spiritual connection. We were one in Heart,Mind, and Thought together with the Lord. I wasn’t expecting this to happen, because we really hadn’t spoken much to each other. Through this experience I know that the Lord wants all of us to become one with him and each other. I loved her and I will miss her presence.
Deepest condolences. She was part of our graduating class of ‘65 at Lakota. I will miss her Ohio State football posts on game day. She will be missed. 💔
