“Pat” G. Hartley

“Pat“ G. Hartley, 89, left for her eternal life in Heaven July 24, 2010.  Visitation will be held 10-11:30 Wednesday July 28, 2010 at Missouri Funeral Care, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO.  A remembrance service will be held at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Association of University Women (AAUW) c/o Susan Luce, 11901 E. 54th St., Kansas City, MO  64133.  Pat was born in Kansas city and attended Calvary Baptist Church where she met her life long Sweetheart, John D. Hartley at the age of 12.  They were married in 1943 the day he graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and were married 51 years until his death in 1995.  Pat decided to become a teacher  at the age of 9 and followed her dream everywhere she lived.  She started with sock dolls in her bedroom and progressed to Urich, MO, Raytown, MO and finally Liberty, MO where she taught college at William Jewel. She and John retired to Table Rock Lake where her life was filled with her first passion, church work and her second passion, fishing.  When John became ill, they moved back to Raytown where they had raised their children, John Hartley II, and Patt Hildebrant.  She loved to travel and after John‘s death she traveled Israel (twice), England, Nova Scotia, Alaska and Belarus, Russia where she started a small church.  She belonged to many teaching and church organizations and was President of Missouri Teachers Association, wrote 3 published teaching manuals and her latest project was reading books to judge their value for Christian school libraries.  In 1995 she moved to John Knox Village where she was involved in administrative activities such as Neighborhood Council and Community Liaison to the administration.  She also volunteered at the JKV Care Center.  Two years ago she moved to the care center and was most recently elected President of the Residence Council.   She spent her last days filled with reading and visiting those who were not mobile and enjoying her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two children, three grandchildren; Kerrie O‘Connor of Raymore, Victoria Landaverry of Lee‘s Summit, and Rhea Reed of Wichita, KS and seven great-grandchildren; Andrew, Abby and Asher Bertz, Brandon, Brisa and Blake Landaverry and Maya Reed.
