Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Penny Louise Smith, 68, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 23 surrounded by family. She was born October 11th, 1956, in Waynesville, North Carolina, to David and Dorothy Massie. She met the love of her life, Neal Smith, in the summer of 1975. They were married on September 27th of the same year. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before Neal’s passing in 2022.
Penny was one of the kindest women you could have met. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. She worked for more than 20 years helping veterans and retired from the VFW. She loved and took great pride in this work.
In her free time, she enjoyed attending baseball games, sailing and traveling. When she wasn’t spending time with family and friends you could always find Penny reading a book.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents David and Dorothy Massie; her husband Neal Smith; sister Sharon Wilson and brother Hank Massie. She is survived by her children Allison Weaver (Larry); Nicholas Smith (Claire); Ryan Smith and Victor Wagner; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Timothy Massie (Teresa) and many other loving family members.
Even though Penny is no longer with us her memory will live on with every act of kindness. Because as Penny often said, kindness counts.
The memorial service will be held the morning of Monday, October 28th at 11:00am with visitation starting at 10:30am in the Atrium of Connection Point Church, located at 10500 E. 350 Hwy, Raytown, Missouri 64138.
Ryan, Victor and Family, I’m so very sorry for the pain and grieving you’re going through. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a parent. I pray the Lord and His Holy Spirit will comfort you all in this season of grieving.
Penny was and will always be one of my favorite people. Our friendship started when we were kids and will last in my heart until the day I join her. I will always love her and the good times we had. The world lost a wonderful, loving, and amazing woman. To Allie, Nick, and Ryan, I love you and am so sorry for your loss. Tara Penny always told me you were her soul person. She loved you and your family so much and looked forward to the time she was able to come and spend with you guys every year.
Much love to you all
Sherry
