Phillip Lee Brown

Phillip Lee Brown, 65, passed away on February 22, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas. He was born on July 8, 1960, in Austin, Texas, to Dorothy Ann Brown and B.J. Brown.

Phillip is preceded in death by his father, B.J. Brown. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Ann Brown of Dallas, Texas; his life partner, Tony Thomas of Overland Park, Kansas; his brother Richard Brown (Linda) of Dallas, Texas; and his brother Bill Brown (Karen) of Houston, Texas. He also leaves behind three nieces, one nephew, and two great-nieces in Texas.

In the 1970s, the Brown family relocated from Austin to Dallas, where Phillip spent much of his childhood on Lochwood Avenue and in the Oak Lawn area. He graduated from Bryan Adams High School and went on to follow in his father’s footsteps by attending the University of Texas at Austin.

After college, Phillip returned to Dallas and began his career with Tom James Custom Men’s Clothing, an ideal environment for his natural sense of style. He later joined Neiman Marcus, where he interned and worked in the furs department. Phillip often shared stories from his time there, reflecting on the valuable lessons he learned and the lifelong friendships he formed.

He continued his career with Legacy Trading Company, where he thrived in the world of on-trend home goods and built strong, lasting relationships with colleagues he considered family. Phillip later found his calling in real estate with Ebby Halliday Realtors, where his warmth and ability to connect with others made him especially successful.

After years of connecting through social media, Phillip met Tony Thomas in Dallas. Their bond quickly grew, and Phillip relocated to Overland Park, Kansas, to build a life together. There, he worked with Eddie Bauer, Ferguson’s, and Lowe’s. Phillip embraced Tony’s family and friends wholeheartedly, and they welcomed him with equal warmth, drawn to his kindness and genuine spirit.

Phillip shared a special passion for photography with his father, capturing the beauty in everyday moments through his lens. He was also deeply interested in world news and history, developing a compassion for those most in need. He loved exploring thrift stores in search of hidden treasures, enjoyed live music, followed the Real Housewives, and was a devoted fan of 1980s music and videos.

Phillip will be remembered for his love of life, his adventurous spirit, his loyalty to friends and family, and his engaging personality. He had a gift for storytelling, bringing joy and laughter no matter how many times a story was told. Above all, Phillip was a kind and generous soul who would go out of his way to help anyone in need.

In lieu of flowers or a memorial, please consider honoring Phillip by doing something kind for someone else – make the world a better place in his name.

Goodbye, Phillip Brown. Thank you for all the memories and know you will be missed every day.

Phillip consistently exhibited a kind and generous nature to all he met. He also carried himself as the perfect old school gentleman, but with the addition of a superb, if wonderfully dry, sense of humor I have always considered it a great honor to have been his friend. Phillip will be very much missed.

What a great picture of Phillip! He was an integral part of my early life here in Dallas at Legacy Trading Co. and beyond. I can hardly recall a milestone in the formative years of my business where Phillip was all-in. His spirit was such a wonderful part of our little work family and I was saddened when he moved on but of course life isn’t work and I was happy for him when he decided to make the big move with Tony.
Phillip was Fairy Godfather to many a fairy, always finding the next lost soul when the former had transformed into a functioning adult. He gave selflessly to his friends including myself. It was a shock to hear this news and I do and will always think of him with that supportive laugh……and an airstream!

I met Phillip while working on a contract for Legacy Trading. His personality lifted everyone, while his sense of humor carried everyone. I learned important life lessons from Phillip that have stayed with me my whole life. My wife, Pam, thought Phillip was the best-looking man she’d like to have a fling with, which taught me the value and comfort of knowing he was gay. Thank you, Phillip. Pam and I are privileged to have known you.
