I was sorry to learn of Mr. Spriggs passing recently. Phillip was my voice coach when I was a student at Jeff City Senior High School. I studied with Phil for over two years and although my talent was somewhat limited (mediocre range) limited, I did win the Male Vocalist of the Year in 1973 at JCHS. I so enjoyed being one of Phil’s voice students and I went on to pursue voice for two years at the University of Missouri. I was appreciative of all the great vocal instruction that I was fortunate to receive and Phil’s easy going style was absolutely perfect. Although I did not keep in contact over the years, I wondered recently how Phi was doing and ran across his obituary. I was quite saddened, but wanted his family to know that he made a very positive impression on me and instilled a certain confidence that served me well throughout my life. Please accept my condolences and know that Phil was a wonderful teacher and friend to me back in 1971-1973 and I never forgot him !
