Reta May Scrivner

Reta May Scrivner 81 of Independence, MO passed away November 28, 2020. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

We have lost our mom, Grandma Reta, G.G., Aunt Reta, and our friend.

She loved her kids, grand-kids, and great grand-kids more than life itself.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Roberta Spencer. Reta was born in Kansas City, Missouri, her family then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia as her father was serving there in the Navy. They moved back to Kansas City and Reta graduated from Paseo High School in 1957.

Reta had two children; son Oady and daughter Dana. Oady Spencer is married to Cheryl Spencer, his children are Amber Neel married to Mark Neel; his grandchildren Julia, Kaylee, and Mark James. His daughter Daiquiri White married to Roger White; grandchildren Rylie, Madison, and Gabrielle. Cheryl’s son Adam Carey, his wife Michelle Carey and their children Hannah and Daniel.

Daughter Dana Wohlgemuth, her husband Brent Wohlgemuth and their children Rudy Wohlgemuth and his wife Winston Wohlgemuth; Tyler Wohlgemuth and his wife Courtney Wohlgemuth; and their children, Gage and Zoey.

Reta was a hard worker. She worked as a cocktail waitress in her parents’ beer joints. Continued into retail food service and then retail clothing for the Woolco Company in the early 70’s then into management. Moved on to the wholesale food business as an office assistant at Tom’s Produce in Kansas City and then moving to Dan’s Food Service in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. With her background in the food industry, you can imagine very easily that she was a great cook.

She moved back to the KC area to Blue Springs, Missouri in the late 2000’s. Managed Burr Oak Woods apartments and then finally retired. She moved into the Woods Chapel Lodge Apartments and met many nice people and made some true friends. Her health issues required her to move into the Villages of Jackson Creek and this was where she eventually passed.

Raised in the Catholic religion, we know she is now at peace and in a better place. She was loved by many and will be missed by many but remain in our hearts forever.

I am extremely late with this, but I use to take care of sweet reta at the villages, but I became medically injured and had to leave, but reta left a special impression with me. I looked for her for many months and finally figured out her last name and found this. I loved you so much reta and I’m sorry you are no longer here and I’m sorry I had to leave and could no longer take care of you. Your daughter was always so kind to me. I bragged about you everywhere I went. You were one special lady
