Five years have changed many things. They have changed me. There are wounds that eventually become stories. Then there are wounds that become part of the architecture of who you are.

Love doesn’t always end when a heartbeat does. Sometimes it continues in the choices we make, the people we become, and the quiet moments when a song reminds us that some connections are never measured by how long they lasted, but by how deeply they changed us.

Losing you, wasn’t something I simply “got over.” It reshaped the landscape of my heart. Missing you never became easier. I just became stronger at carrying it. I didn’t lose a person. I lost the version of myself that only existed when you were alive. The world kept moving. Mine never found the same rhythm again. The hardest part wasn’t the day you left. It was discovering the world expected me to keep existing in one that no longer made sense. I survived your death. Living with it has been the harder task.

Your absence became another presence. It sits quietly beside me wherever I go. I no longer wait for you to come back. I still catch myself wanting to tell you about my day. People assume grief is learning to live without someone. They never tell you the harder truth: learning to keep living while the life you imagined died with them.

There are people I’ve met since you died who know the woman I became, but they’ll never know the woman you loved.

I didn’t just lose the person I loved. I lost the witness to who I am becoming. Every version of me since has carried the quiet knowledge that the one person I wanted to meet her never will.

Some souls leave this world. Some never leave your heart.

Robert Cody Lucas… I miss you..

You did not leave an empty space in my life. You became the shape around which the rest of my life had to grow. There are days when I laugh without guilt, days when I find peace, days when I feel whole. But even then, there is a room inside me with your name on the door. It is not locked. It is not abandoned. It is simply where love continues after it has nowhere left to go.
