Ronald Lee Thompson Sr., 89, formerly of St. Joseph passed away April 30, 2026.
Ron was born on June 20, 1936 in Wathena, Kansas, to the late James and Nellie (Jones) Thompson.
He graduated from Breckenridge High School. He enlisted in the Army on December 19, 1956 where he was a Dental Specialist/Dental Technician until honorably discharged on December 3, 1959.
Always known as a hard worker he did many things over the years. He worked at Seitz, farmed, worked at Peachtree door, and retired from Friskies October 1, 2000. After retiring he enjoyed working part time at the gas station in Avenue City. His favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing and watching westerns. He didn’t know a stranger and was loved by many.
On May 17, 1960, Ron married Loretta Hickok. Born of this marriage were Pam, Ron Jr., and Dan. On April 23, 1979, the Lord took this beloved wife and mother home.
Ron let love grow again in his heart. On December 24, 1991, he married Joyce (Jo) Ueligger. He became a loving stepfather to Vee and Ray.
In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by Loretta, Jo, son Dan, brother Franklin, sisters Anna Schlemminger and Helen (Janie) Bangs.
Survivors: daughter Pam Regan, son Ron Jr. (Robin), Vee Simpson (Tyler), Ray Smith Jr. (Amy), sisters Lois Martin, Vicki McClintick, Audrey Bowen, and Grace Lund; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held on June 13, 2026 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 4520 Mitchell, Avenue, St. Joseph. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph.
The family suggests memorials to: St. Lukes Hospice House, 3516 Summit, Kansas City, MO 64111.
Rest in peace Ron Thompson Sr, you have been a great rock since I was a kid and my thoughts and prayers are with all the family and friends out there. Love you all.
