To provide extra luck to the Chiefs, Ross made sure to hang his Chiefs flags before every regular or post-season game, and during scoring plays or to offset anything negative he felt the announcers said, Ross would knock three times on wood, three times in a row. He would also do this when his grandson would come in to pitch in his baseball games. Ross also loved watching old western movies, game shows, and his soap operas.

Ross was preceded in death by his mother and father, Sister Carol Weber, Brother Richard Herzig, and son Jonathan Conrad.
