Roy Louis Pieper

Roy Louis Pieper, 64, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026 from Cancer. He was born on March 28, 1962.

Roy shared a lifelong bond with his brothers. As the youngest of the four, he grew up surrounded by adventures and stories that would be retold for decades. Together with their families, they remained a constant source of love, laughter, and support throughout his life.

Roy and his daughter, Kasey, shared a love of music, nature, collecting treasures, storytelling, and finding joy in life’s simple moments. They were both grateful for the chance to reconnect, and the relationship they rebuilt became a gift to them both.

Children brought out Roy’s brightest smile. He was never happier than when he was playing and laughing with kids. To many, he was the fun-loving Uncle Roy, always ready with a joke, a story, or an adventure. Becoming “Grandpa” to Henry and Ruby was one of the greatest joys of his life, and the love they shared was unmistakable.

More than anything, Roy loved making people laugh. He had a quick wit, a collection of stories that somehow never got old, and a knack for finding humor in everyday life. Whether he was teasing someone, telling a joke, or retelling a favorite memory, he loved seeing people smile.

He found peace outdoors. He loved camping beneath the stars, canoeing rivers with lifelong friends, exploring the Colorado mountains, riding his Harley, rollerblading, and simply being outside. Later in life, he found satisfaction in caring for lawns and landscapes, taking pride in creating beautiful outdoor spaces and keeping every yard looking its best.

He was an enthusiastic collector with a curiosity for the unique. Coins, sports cards, Hot Wheels, pocket knives, antiques, and sports memorabilia all found a place in his collections. He loved music, appreciated life’s simple pleasures, and never stopped enjoying a good story or a good laugh.

Though cancer changed many things, it never completely dimmed Roy’s sense of humor or his appreciation for the people around him. Even during difficult days, he found moments of gratitude, comfort, and laughter, reminding those who loved him to do the same.

Roy will be remembered for his playful spirit, his generous heart, his love of family, and his ability to make ordinary moments feel memorable. His absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who knew and loved him, but his stories, laughter, and love will continue to echo through the generations.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Laura Pieper, and brother Dan Pieper. He is survived by his daughter Kasey & Husband Adam Hammeke; grandchildren Henry & Ruby; brothers Dennis (Lisa) & Lester (Diane); sister-in-law Louise Pieper; and nieces and nephews.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kasey Hammeke; his cherished grandchildren, Henry and Ruby, who brought him endless joy; his brothers, Dennis Pieper and Lisa Pieper, and Les Pieper and Diane Pieper; his sister-in-law, Louise Pieper; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Overland Park Historical Society in downtown Overland Park. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share stories, laugh, remember, and celebrate Roy’s life. All who knew and loved Roy are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who wish to honor Roy’s memory to spend time outdoors, share a favorite story, put on some music, and make someone laugh.
