Ruth Langley

Ruth G. Langley of Kansas City, MO, and San Antonio, TX, passed away on May 27, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital. She had lived in Kansas City since 1996 and was a resident of The Greens at Creekside at the time of her passing. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on October 8, 1914 she quickly learned to make new friends ( a quality that blessed her and everyone in her life) as the family moved from New Jersey to Detroit and then to Havana Cuba, in 1919. In Cuba she must have tasted her first avocado. The Florida boom took the family to West Palm Beach, where she learned a love of the water and swimming. The crash of 1929 and a hurricane sent the family searching for a new life in Texas. She grew up and attended high school and college in San Antonio. Her great love at the time was music and she sang in college choirs, as a church soloist and on radio in the San Antonio area. She married John Langley in 1938. She provided support with her four sister-in-laws as they prayed for the safe return of husbands and brothers through the end of WWII. Ruth Raised two children to whom she passed on a love of music, teaching them the score to the musical, ?Oklahoma? while in Kindergarten. She was a lifelong member of the Daughters or the Nile and was past queen of Nakodah Temple #44 in San Antonio, TX. Ruth was preceded in Death by her husband John Langley in 1965. She is survived by her brother William E. Gregoor of Lake Livingston, Texas; Daughter Ann Langley of Falls Church, Virginia; Son Bill Langley of Kansas City, Missouri; Daughter-in-law Barbara Langley; granddaughter and grandson, Hilary and Mathew O?Brien of Las Vegas, Nevada. Memorial Services will be held at Bonfils Chapel @ Community Christian Church, 4601 Main Street, Kansas City, MO, Friday, June 24, 2005 at 1:30 PM. Services in San Antonio are also Pending. Ruth requested that we not wear dark clothes to the service, preferring the bright shades of summer to help us celebrate her life. The family requests that in Lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Shriner?s Crippled Children?s Fund. We also thank the staffs of The Greens at Creekside, St. Joseph?s Hospital, and Odyssey Health Care for their acts of kindness to all.
