Ruth V. (Shields) Pannell

Ruth V. (Shields) Pannell, 78, of Raytown, Missouri passed away February 26th, 2025 at Addington Place in Lee’s Summit, Missouri after fighting a courageous two year battle with lung cancer.

Ruth was born on July 15, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She was known for her dry sense of humor and her truthful responses. She loved playing games online with her lifelong friend, Lynne and watching her grandchildren compete in sports. She had a lake home on The Lake of the Ozarks for years and enjoyed lake activities and playing poker with her lake family.

She retired from a career with the federal government, working for the IRS and the Department of Agriculture.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garry L. (Perky) Pannell, her maternal grandparents Charles and Margaret Gieringer, her mother Rosemary M. Schultz, two brothers Randy and Donnie Schultz and many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her two sons Garry (Jody) and Tim (Shannan) Pannell and four grandchildren, Paige, Jacob, Taylor and Lane Pannell. Also her sister Rosanne (Nic) Smith, brothers David (Brenda) Schultz and Ronnie Schultz. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous lifelong friends.

Ruth’s legacy will live on through the countless lives she has touched and the love she shared with us all. May she rest in peace.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 31st from 12:00pm-3:00pm at 5613 South Noland Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64133. Please consider a donation to Heartland Hospice in honor of Ruthie.
