Sally M. Baker

Sally M. Baker, 55, of Raymore, MO, made her transition on May 5, 2011. Sally was a longtime faculty member at DeVry University in Kansas City where she taught accounting, tax, and computer classes. Although she was proud of her technical competencies at work, she was even more proud of her ability to coach and mentor her students so that they could reach their optimal potential in every area of their lives. She also had a small tax practice where she was completely dedicated to her clients. There was no one in the world who could get as excited about taxes as she could. Sally grew up in Mooresville, North Carolina, and had hoped to return there for her retirement years. Instead she has moved on to her greater Home. Sally was also a fun loving and giving soul who lived life with gusto. She held family, friends, and animals dear to her heart and was generous with her love and resources. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna McClure, her father, Theodore Baker, and her Pop (stepfather), John McClure, Jr. Survivors include: Connie Poppino, Life Partner, Sisters and Brothers: Jane Gilliland, Troutman, NC, Larry Williams, Myrtle Beach, SC, Ron Williams, Hanford, CA, Steven Baker, Statesville, NC, Bobbi Provost, Davidson, NC, Carmel Lee Chamberlin, Troutman, NC. She also had 11 nephews, 5 nieces, numerous great nieces and nephews and great- great nieces and nephews. There will be 2 Celebration of Life services. One will be held in Kansas City at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1014 West 39th St., Kansas City, MO, on May 14 at 1:00 p.m. Casual dress. The second one will be held at Cavin-Cook Chapel, 494 East Plaza Dr., Mooresville, NC 28115, on June 4 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family will be received starting at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow. Sally’s remains will be scattered on the mountains in White Oak, NC. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Road, Kansas City, MO 64137.
