Sandra “Kay” Castro

Sandra “Kay” Castro, 83, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away June 20, 2023. Kay was born on September 14, 1939 in Kansas City, MO. In 1957, she married Phillip Castro, her husband of 62 years until his passing in 2019.

She spent most of her life as a homemaker was an excellent cook, and devoted Wayne Newton and Bingo fan. A stroke in 1992 left her without the use of her right side but she learned to adapt and could wrap a gift like a pro! Prior to her stroke, she loved to bowl and was in many leagues, earning many awards. She loved to embroider and was very good at it.

Gigi Kay was extremely proud of her great-granddaughter, Piper Dooley. She loved watching all of Piper’s dance competitions and hearing about her awards. Piper and Gigi Kay had a special bond, even a special game they played. It brought so much joy to both of their faces.

Kay was preceded in death by: husband, Phillp Castro, Jr; granddaughter, Amber Nicole Rose; son, Chris Lance Castro; her parents, brothers and sister.

She is survived by: daughter, Carrie Rhoades; grandchildren, Tyler Dooley (Kelsey), Justin Castro, Cody Castro and Kelsey Melton; half-sister, Nola Jean Banta (Mick), and 6 great-grandchildren.
