Sandra “Sandie” Anne Gaines 70, passed away peacefully Monday March 16th 2026 among husband, daughter, and son. A beloved wife and husband Robert “Bob”, daughter Melissa “Missy”, and son Robert II “Bobby”.
Sandie was born April 7th to the Owen Family of 7 siblings. She attend Loretto High School Class of ’73. Sandie first met her future husband in high school at his home near Loose Park—at the bottom of his famously steep driveway. Though they didn’t begin dating until later, their connection quickly became undeniable and lifelong. After several years of courtship, they married in 1976. Sandie juggled being a wife and mother while working a full time job. First at Halls Plaza as a department manager before being recruited by her husband to start and help run Gaines Furniture Outlet which they did side by side successfully for 31 years. All the while raiding two children, volunteering as a track coach, cub scout den mother, and countless other school benefit activities.
Beyond her professional life, 1984 she and her husband bought the historic Bent/Ward Home at 1032 W 55th st. KC MO. Sandie had a remarkable gift for gardening and landscaping. She personally designed and cared for every flowerbed, transforming their yard into a neighborhood treasure. Her pride in her work was evident in every bloom.
Above all, Sandie was the heart of her family. A devoted Christian, she lived her faith daily through kindness, compassion, and service. She ensured her children were raised with strong values, sending them to Catholic school and guiding them with love, patience, and wisdom. Selfless and generous, Sandie consistently put others before herself, offering unwavering support to her family and friends. To those who knew her, she was a source of grace, strength, and unconditional love—a truly remarkable mother and person. She gave endlessly—often more than anyone could ever ask—and never expected anything in return.
Sandie found joy in life’s simple pleasures: playing slot machines with her sisters, traveling to Las Vegas with Family and enjoying sunny days by the Woodside Club pool. Yet her greatest happiness was always found in her family, her garden, and her beloved dogs.
She will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched. The love, lessons, and beauty she shared will continue to grow in the hearts of all who knew her.
