Sharon Burniece Cotrell Mossman

Sharon Burniece Cotrell Mossman, age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2019.  The family rejoices that her eternal soul is now with Jesus Christ.
Sharon was surrounded by her family at the end of life. Those moments were peaceful, loving, full of sharing sweet memories and laughter. As it is with any big change we ask for prayers for the family during this time.
Sharon is survived by her devoted and greatly loved husband of 32 years, James Robert Mossman (Bob). Sharon is also survived by a large family who will cherish and appreciate her legacy: Howard Castleberry of Austin, Texas; Joanne Castleberry of Nacogdoches, Texas; Jenifer Wakefield and spouse Gary Wakefield of Round Rock, Texas, Nanine Castleberry of Lenexa, Kansas, Jennifer Blickenstaff and spouse John Blickenstaff of Andover, Kansas; Christine Huntley of Boulder, Colorado; youngest sister Victoria Cotrell and spouse Bill Gilmore, of Portland, Oregon.
Sharon was blessed with numerous grandchildren: Elizabeth, Wilson, Jackson and Christian Castleberry, of Nacogdoches, Texas; Jessica Webster and spouse John Webster of Fort Worth, Texas; and Jordan Caton and spouse David Caton of Denton, Texas. Grandchildren by marriage include Brandi and spouse Matthew Agnew, of Dallas, Texas, and Chad Blickenstaff and spouse Mary Claire, of Andover, Kansas; Bailey Huntley of Colorado, and Ciara Huntley, of Andover, Kansas.

Great-grandchildren: Aven and Vivian Webster of Fort Worth, Texas; and Isla Everly Agnew of Dallas, Texas.
Our “one-of-a-kind” Sharon was as alive as she could be on this earth. There was never a dull moment with her! She was a talented dancer and performer and loved both writing and reading, receiving a degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
Sharon trained as a nurse in Emporia College, Kansas, then entered the Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, Maryland, serving as a hospital corp wave in Great Lakes Illinois in 1959. After her military service she became a state parole officer in Kansas City, Kansas and then received her certification in drug and alcohol counseling. She worked in Lansing State Prison as a drug and alcohol counselor until she retired. She had a passion for social justice, generous with her time and resources in gathering for those in need. We will miss her quick, dry wit, love of learning about any topic including the Scriptures, passion for social justice, care for her birds, her talent and depth.
Our family is so very grateful to the many staff, caregivers, administrators, and hospice team at Evergreen Community Center of Olathe, KS who lovingly helped our Sharon, the last two and a half years of her life. We thank you for giving her quality care and a beautiful military send off.
You are now dancing in a whole new way. No more pain, sorrow, or regrets.
Your race is run, your joy is complete!

Mom, I hope you’re having a blast with Jesus, and that there is only joy in your presence. We are still slugging it out here on Earth, so pray for us. Love, Howard
