Sharon Ruth Shay

Sharon Ruth Shay, 76, of Wellsville, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2023 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her children. She was born January 23, 1947 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the oldest of two children born to Ruth and John Block.

She attended and graduated from Olathe North High School. She was a paraprofessional and bus aide for the Olathe School District for over 17 years. She retired from the district on December 31, 2017 at the age of 70. Sharon was an in-home care provider for numerous family members and friends within her community of Wellsville, Kansas for over 20 years.

Sharon loved collecting recipes and had quite a collection of recipe books as well as recipes clipped from newspapers and magazines which she was happy to share. She enjoyed collecting movies, especially Disney. She also enjoyed reading and rarely would be caught without a book with her no matter where she went. Sharon experienced her most joy when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She could always be counted on when anyone was in need and it brought her joy to help in any way she could. Whether to share a meal, game of cards, or funny story, her presence was and always will be felt especially in those times when we were all together.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Rick Block and grandson Jaime Hewitt.

Sharon is survived by her children Jonalyn Webb of Baldwin City, Kansas; Shawn Shay of Wellsville, Kansas and Destine Hewitt of Wellsville, Kansas; 11 grandchildren Jessica Rockhold, Cassandra Hamon (Bryant), Laiken Rockhold, Hunter Melby (Cole), Skye Chebutlz (Justin), Lapyr Shay (Kendra), Karizma Shay, Jean-Luc Hewitt, Xana Hewitt, and Gaelen Hewitt; and 14 great grandchildren.

Sharon did not wish to hold any funeral services and wanted only for her body to be donated for science purposes.

If anyone wishes to further her memory, Sharon asked that memorial contributions be made to the Franklin County Cancer Foundation www.franklincountycancerfoundation.org/donate
