Sheila Darlene Kirkendoll McFarland 1940-2026

Sheila McFarland, beloved mother to 4 children, 85, of Raytown, MO, (formerly of Kingsville) passed away at home on June 5, 2026, leaving a void her family cannot fill.

She was born in Cameron, MO on July 17, 1940 to Fred LeRoy Kirkendoll and Hazel Alberta Flanders Kirkendoll, the third of three children. She married her high school sweet heart, Ray McFarland, in 1957. Sheila attended Holden High School before studying nursing at Warrensburg Vocational Technical School and then following up with a BS from Central Missouri State University. After graduating she worked at Truman Medical Center East and Western Missouri Medical Center (pka Johnson County Memorial Hospital). Sheila was a faithful member of the Belton Restoration Branch and served as a missionary to Nepal and Australia.

Sheila was active in her Kingsville, MO community for many years, serving as City Clerk (1972-1973), City Alderman (1971-1975), PTA President (1967-1968 and District PTA President (1971-1972). After her retirement she volunteered for KCIM in Lee’s Summit, MO to help keep herself in tune with the needs of others.

Sheila was a devoted mother to Jeffrey McFarland (Vickie), Deborah Francy (Dean), Kathryn Purcell, Roderick Martirez y McFarland (Louie) and grandmother to Chelsea McFarland, Tonia Werneke, Hubert Fluellen, Jessica Fluellen Neely, TJ Fluellen, Chris Ervin, April Ervin, Staci Diamond, Lora Clymore, Tricia Rosha, Rachael Purcell, Jared Purcell, Devon Martirez y McFarland and Alev Martirez y McFarland. She has 25 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Sheila was preceded in death by husband of 61 years, Ray McFarland, Fred Kirkendoll (father), Hazel Kirkendoll (mother), Fred Kirkendoll Jr. (brother), Roderick Kirkendoll (brother), Chelsea McFarland (granddaughter), Chris Ervin (grandson). She is survived by her 4 children, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

Visitation will be at Belton Restoration Branch at 1:30 pm on Saturday June 20th with services following at 2:30 pm, 16630 S Mullen Rd, Belton, MO 64012. Sheila’s favorite color was purple, and anyone who would like to honor her by wearing that color is welcome to do so.
