Sheila Laughlin, 59, passed away December 30, 2014 in Independence, MO surrounded by family and friends. Sheila was born August 20, 1955 in Kansas City to Verne and Ray Philpott, and lived her life in Eastern Jackson County. She graduated from Truman High School in 1973. She was a member of Job’s Daughters and spent her professional life as an Executive Assistant. Sheila enjoyed Physic Fairs, NASCAR races, live music, gardening, and nature photography. She was preceded in death by her parents Verne Adams and Ray Philpott, and her older brother Jerry Barnes. She will be fondly remembered by longtime life partner Doug Laughlin, daughter Alexandra Raye Laughlin, sister Maria Peck, step-mother Kathy Philpott, nieces Kandra and Abby Bradford, niece and nephew Stephanie and Joshua Laughlin, great-nephew Breven Bradford, best friend Marcia Blickhan and surrogate son John Bogert, many aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, and friends near and far. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 9th, 2015 at 1PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 2PM at Heartland Cremation and Burial, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO. In honor of Sheila’s preferences, we encourage you to wear your jeans, favorite concert or auto racing t-shirt, or whatever makes you happy and comfortable. Shoes optional.

I am so sorry for your loss. Sheila was a sweetheart, I always enjoyed seeing her at the Flamingo when she came to hear my bands play.
