Stella Harriet Sollars

Stella Harriet Sollars, 90, of Olathe, Kansas passed away May 7, 2019 at Villa St. Francis. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 815 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A rosary will be said beforehand at 9:30AM.

Ms. Sollars was born on July 10, 1928 in Shanghai, China. A staunch supporter of the rights of the unborn, Stella made her life matter by fighting for the most vulnerable. A woman ahead of her time, she had both family, career and a voice that she made heard in her community and country. Devoted to her catholic faith and her love of the Blessed Virgin, she passed on her love of God to her children and their children. She survived WW2 as a POW and this gave her sense of responsibility to fight for freedom and for morality. She is and always will be our hero. We will miss her everyday until we see her again in Heaven.

Survivors include her children; Robert Dodson and wife Connie, Carolyn Dodson, Mary Celeste Sollars-Wright and husband Michael, Jonathan Sollars and wife Pamela Kerrihard-Sollars, grandchildren; Miranda Miller-Jensen, Jessica Ward, Honour, Sean and Theresa Sollars and great grandchildren; Cameron, Kayley and Stella, cousin Ted Whitgob of Australia and loving friend Dr. Tom Cherry of Oregon.

Memorial contributions can be made in Stella’s name to Wayside Waifs or Missouri Right to Life.

She was an amazing woman. She was so kind and I remember her taking me to the Chinese event one year.

Stella was a great lady and she will be missed big time! Stella was nearly a twenty year friend from the Missouri Right to Life organization that she cared about so deeply! We also remember taking care of her cat Milo and her dog Alex.

Stella will be fondly remembered for many reasons. She lived courageously through captivity in a WWII internment camp. That’s enough for some, but not Stella. She deeply valued freedom and the sanctity of all life. She exercised tenacious resolve in her support for and defense of both, and understood how intrinsically linked are they. I loved this lady and will miss her. She met in my home regularly for prayer times for a season. Another wonderful memory is tea with a small group of ladies brought in to her living facility. There were other memories-  too many to recount, but I hold them in my heart!
