Sunan Pecina

Sunan Pecina, 81, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away at her home with family on October 13, 2012, after a valiant 10 month battle with cancer. A memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Brooking Cemetery, 10004 East 53rd Street, Raytown. Sunan was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Chantaburi, Thailand, to Eang and Nrom Methawan. After working in Thailand as a nurse she immigrated to the United States in 1972 and resumed her nursing career at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. After several years, Sunan began working in a local nursing home facility where she met her husband, Maximilliano G. Pecina Sr. who she kindly referred to as Papoo. Sunan and Papoo had several years together until he succumbed to Alzheimer’s Disease at which time she retired from nursing and became a full-time housewife and caregiver. During her life Sunan always put her family and friends ahead of herself. While living frugally she gave from her heart all that she could and then some. Gardening was her passion and you could often find her tending her flowers around her home. Sunan is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by a sister, Sumana Dasanon of Thailand, her children, Pac Pitiyanuyath and his wife Pilin of Kansas City, Tee Taylor and husband Kevin of Raytown. She also leaves three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her soft voice, gentle manners and big heart will be missed by all her family and friends. In addition to her immediate family Sunan will also be missed by Nipat and Tasanaporn Pitiyanuvath, Jiraya Keller, Vatana Boonyasai and Bill, Chitra, Athena and Mariesa Slaughter. In so many ways Sunan was a grandmother to the world. Her love has touched many and in her passing many tears have been shed. In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care are appreciated.
