Susan Benson

It is with great sadness, that the family of Susan Russell Benson of Shawnee KS, announce her sudden passing that occurred on July 19, 2023.

Susan was born on June 17, 1962, and was a 1980 graduate of Hempfield High School. She was the daughter of the late William Russell and Nancy Primozich Russell. Susan was deeply devoted to her Savior, Jesus Christ and was a member of the Vineyard Church KC West. She loved her country and served honorably in the US Air Force from 1980-85. For many years, Susan worked as a Teacher’s Aide in the Salina KS school district. Later, she attended college, earning her associates degree in Occupational Therapy (something she was very proud of). She worked as a COTA in the Kansas City area and loved the residents she cared for. Susan was an excellent cook and baker, as well as a talented gardener.

In spite of living near Kansas City, she remained an avid Steeler fan. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her beloved daughter, Erin. Talking on the phone, making trips to see each other or attending an event together, they were the best of friends. In addition to her daughter, Susie is also survived by her sister Sally (David) Petraglia, two brothers Patrick (Linda) and Danny (Karen) Russell. Also survived by nephew Max (Ilana) Petraglia, three nieces Emily (Jay) Crowley, Maddie (Sean) Cusick and Hannah Russell. Other survivors include: several great nieces and nephews, her Aunt Mary Ellen Russell, many cousins, dear friends, and her fur baby, Lucy.

A memorial service will be held on, Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Vineyard West Church, 10601 Hutton Rd, Kansas City, KS 66109.
