Susan Lynn Bowerman
February 17, 1959 – August 26, 2026
Susan Lynn Bowerman, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026. She was born on February 17, 1959, in La Jolla, California.
Susan dedicated more than 30 years of her life to nursing, working alongside Dr. Thomas Manion, Dr. Frank Albani, and the team at Mid-America Heart and Lung Surgeons. Her career reflected the same qualities that defined her at home: compassion, dedication, and an unwavering kindness toward everyone she met.
On a personal level, Susan was known for her quick wit and infectious sense of humor. She had a gift for making people laugh and an even greater gift for making them feel welcome. She loved shopping for nice clothes, adored spoiling her grandchildren at every opportunity, cherished her dogs as beloved members of the family, and found peace and joy in visits to the ocean.
Susan was married to the love of her life, Greg Bowerman, for 48 years, since May of 1978.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Bowerman; her son, Scott Bowerman, and daughter-in-law, Sally Bowerman; her grandchildren, Bradyn and Addisyn Bowerman; her daughter, Amy Treece, and son-in-law, Brandon Treece; her grandchildren, Steven and Myla Treece; her brother, Mike Eaton; and her sister, Jeanne Thompson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Fort Osage Church of the Nazarene, 19333 E US Hwy 24, Independence, MO 64056.
Susan will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, and the love she poured into her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Susan’s memory to the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (kumc.edu/research/alzheimers-disease-research-center/about/make-a-gift.html).

Susan was a great neighbor, I always loved sitting outside talking with her. I loved spoiling both her and Greg with many dinners and sweet treats. I will miss her a lot.
Greg, Scott, and Amy: my sincerest condolences to you and your families on the loss of your wife, mother, and grandmother. You were blessed with one of the most cheerful and engaging women I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Due to my occupation and then living out of state, I wasn’t around your family as much as I would have liked. But my memories of Susan will always be one of a beautiful lady who had a love of life. My life was made better by knowing her. No doubt, she will be missed by many.

We know that this time is tough for all of you and we just wanted to say that if you need anything please don’t hesitate to reach out. My deepest sympathy to the Bowerman family. Susan was my father’s nurse for as long as I can remember. I had the opportunity to work alongside Susan and my father, Tom Manion, after college, before I began nursing school in Kansas City. Susan showed me how to be a great nurse. Susan was patient, kind, and very fun to work with. I always remembered her confidence and sassy attitude. She was very likable, always ready with a funny comment and contagious smile. Susan definitely set the stage for my career in nursing. I am forever grateful!

I am so sorry fir your loss. Susan and I had so much fun together in Jr High. I will always remember her smile and her laugh. I pray for comfort to you and your family. Keep your memories close.
