Thelma E. Worten

Thelma E. Boston, affectionately known as Ernistine, was born on July 31, 1939, in Coahoma County, Mississippi. She was the second of four children of Nathaniel and Fannie Boston. She joins in eternal rest her parents, spouses, her brother Nathaniel Boston Jr., her sisters Lena Briscoe and Forestine Ingram, and her son Keith Boston. She is survived by her grandchild, Cherritta Boston-Wyatt, and a host of nieces and nephews. Ernistine embraced her faith early in life, being baptized, and later reaffirming her faith in Jesus Christ in her later years. Ernistine lived a life expressing love. She never gave up on love as she was married four times, including twice to the same man. She deeply loved children and desired a home full of the laughter and joy of a large family, however such did not come to pass. After many years of heartbreak, she was blessed with her only son, Keith Boston. Though she always hoped for more children, she devoted herself to helping to raise her beloved nephew and was eager to watch after and protect any family member or patient in need. Known for her fun, sassy, and straightforward demeanor, she was the aunt who spoke her mind and sought to set right all Wrongdoings. A dedicated registered nurse for forty years, Ernistine worked at Western Missouri Psychiatric Hospital and the emergency trauma department at University of Health Truman Medical Center Emergency Trauma Unit until her retirement. Even long after retirement, her compassion extended to caring for ill family members for more than 20 years. She lovingly tended to her niece, her roommate, for eleven years, until her own battle with bone and breast cancer required her to receive care. In addition to her nursing career, Ernistine was an exceptional cosmetologist with a large loyal clientele. However, the demands of nursing and raising her son led her to step away from this secondary profession. For several years prior to the age of thirty, she modeled semi-professionally, showcasing beautiful gowns and elegant attire. Ernistine extended her love to God’s creations of animals and plants. She and her bird, Oscar, were together for over 30 years. She had a fondness for aquatic life, and her home never lacked multiple aquariums hosting a variety of exotic sea life. Her home was filled with plants that she lovingly nurtured and she gardened for many years, cultivating plants that reminded her of the farm where she spent her childhood with her parents and siblings. In her leisure time, Ernistine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and dancing. She will be greatly missed by her family as the oldest living member.  May she rest in peace in heaven with Christian ancestors and our Heavenly Father.
