Thomas George Taylor

Thomas George Taylor was born on August 14, 1949 in Traverse City, MI to Verna Jean and John R. Taylor Sr. Tom grew up in Cheboygan, MI with his older sister Janice and younger brother John R. Jr. After graduating from high school, Tom moved to Champaign, IL to attend the University of Illinois and graduated with a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in History. While living in Champaign, he met and married his wife, Kimberly, in the fall of 1974.

Throughout his life, Tom loved playing the drums and was in a touring band in the 70’s called the Tennessee Playboys. He also adored anything relating to aviation and had obtained his pilot’s license at the age of 19. Tom was a fiercely humorous, joyful spirit who loved making people laugh. He was left handed, loved the color green, and always had a joke or story ready to tell.

Tom passed away on September 2, 2021 surrounded by family. He is very much loved, missed, and honorably survived by his wife of 47 years (Kimberly), his oldest daughter and her family (Shannon, Ryan, Alexis, Taylor, and Mason Helms), his oldest son and his family (Ryan, Kim, Kendall, Keira, and Kami Taylor), his youngest daughter and her partner (Courtney Taylor and Jacob Brewer), and his youngest son and his child (Cameron and Oakley Taylor).

Though I’ve not seen him in years, I am left numb at learning of his passing. I remember him as a smiling cheerful soul with a quick wit and spontaneous humor; much accomplished during his sadly brief life. I,too, shall miss him. Please accept my most sincere condolences for your loss in the passing of a wonderful man.

Precious ones. I am well acquainted with losing a parent ( as well as other loved ones) and the struggle between grief/sorrow and thankfulness they aren’t suffering any longer. We hurt for you. I do not know the pain of losing a spouse but can only imagine the heart-struggles wrapped up in all of those emotions. Clearly he treasured his grands and they treasured him, and their grief is a new journey for them too.

God of compassion, we ask that each family member would be ever aware of Your presence in these difficult days and the days to come. May they each choose to receive Your perfect love and mercy as Your Spirit comforts their souls. May they each cling to the hope that is found in You and may their memories bring waves of relief and joy.
In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen
