Thomas M. Lenz

Thomas Michael Lenz, 59, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, after a five-year battle with mental illness. Tom was born on September 17, 1965, in St. James, Minnesota to Ray and Donna Lenz. He lived a wonderful life, growing up in St. James, until he left to attend college at DeVry University in Kansas City. In 1986, his senior year of college, he met the love of his life, Deanna Kaylor.  They married two years later in St. James, Minnesota at the catholic church, where his parents were married 26 years prior.

Tom’s career path took him and Deanna from Topeka, Kansas to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and then back to Kansas City, before they finally built their home in Overland Park, Kansas, and have resided there ever since. In this home, Tom and Deanna raised their three children Andrew, Sydney, and Elyssa. For the past 24 years, Tom has worked in IT for Kansas City Power and Light/Evergy. He’s always loved his work and his co-workers were like family to him. For the past 20 years, Tom was an usher at the Church of the Ascension. In his free time, he loved to run his Lionel Trains, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Harvesters, go fishing every chance he got, and helped any and everyone with home improvement projects. Even after he took his last breath, he continued to give through the donation of his organs, tissue, and corneas.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Donna (Wermerskirchen) Lenz and his grandparents Frank and Leona Wermerskirchen.

He is survived by his wife Deanna (Kaylor) of 37 years; son Andrew J. Lenz of Chicago, IL; Sydney H. Lenz of Overland Park, KS; and Elyssa R. (Lenz) Mayer and husband Jack of Olathe, KS; sisters Rita Lenz, Trisha (Lenz) Nelson and husband Mark; and two nieces Heather (Nelson) Sogn and Michaela Nelson.

Visitation will be at 9am, followed by Mass at 10am, Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W. 127th St., Overland Park, KS 66213. A reception will be held immediately after Mass.

Memorial Contributions may be made Midwest Transplant Network, 1900 W. 47th Pl #400, Westwood, KS 66205.

    Deanna,

God be with you and your family through this most trying time. May the death and resurrection of His only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, bring you comfort in the days and weeks to come. Tom was one of the happiest people I knew during my high school years in St. James. He was always happy, always joking around, always making someone else’s day. Wonderful memories of the class of ’84!
