Thomas Martin Baker, O.D., 69, passed away July 31, 2007 in Columbia, MO. Dr. Baker was born on August 19, 1937 in Cleveland, OH to the late Thomas A. and Delia B. (Costello) Baker. He moved his family and relocated his Optometry practice to Holliston, MA in 1964. After a successful career he retired to Putney, VT during the summer of 2001. His family is planning a memorial service to be held in Holliston later in the fall. Tom is survived by two sons Thomas Baker, M.D. of Columbia, MO, and Christopher Baker of Boulder, CO; one daughter, Virginia Kelliher of Holly Springs, NC; a sister, Ellenora Ryan of Marietta, GA; his former wife, Carol Baker, of Cary, NC; as well as three grandchildren; Erin Baker of Columbia, MO, Jessica and Gillian Kelliher of Holly Springs, NC.
I was so sorry to learn of Dr. Baker’s passing. I worked as a receptionist in his office in the late 1970’s and learned the true meaning of exceptional customer service by his example. I still run into former patients who comment on how kind and skilled he was and how much they enjoyed coming to the office with the calming jazz music playing in the background. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
It is with deep sorry that we learned of the passing of Tom Baker. We have fond memories of him in Holliston as our eye doctor and friend. We had dreamed of someday reading his stories of the jazz musician that he had so much fun writing about. We can still hear the chuckle as he explained a bit about the character. We so wanted him to again visit his family home of some 30+ years that we have enjoyed living in these last 6 years. We will always see his spirit in the rooms that were his office and look forward to seeing him in the next life. We hope the wonderful memories of this gentle, kind man will continue to live in the hearts of his family and close friends. He is resting much easier now. Tom, we will miss you.

We wanted to let Tom’s family know that his family back in Massachusetts, Ginny and Alan Hopkins and Dan Solomon and his family, are sharing their loss with them at this time. Our hearts are sadden at this time, but the special times that we shared together with Tom and his family will live in our hearts, our souls and our memories for ever.
Our arms are wrapped around each and everyone of you, letting you know that we love you, and are with you.
Special love to you all, and to our Tom, who is at peace with God.
Ginny and Alan Hopkins and Dan Solomon and family.
I’ve met Martin and his family in 1957. He was a dear man from one of the nicest families I’ve ever know. I loved his parents and his sister too. Just thinking of the “Needham Bakers” brings a smile to my heart.
He loved you all and was fascinated with being a grandfather. May God “raise him up on Angel’s wings, bear him on the breath of dawn, make him to shine like the sun and hold him in the palm of his hand.”.
I wish you courage and strength to carry on without him.
May he rest in peace because God loves him as much as we do.
