Verna McDonald, 78, of Gladstone, Mo., died at her home on Thursday. She was born in Grant County, North Dakota to Edward and Olga Fried. She was a 1948 graduate of the Bismarck Hospital School of Practical Nursing in Bismarck, North Dakota. She moved to Kansas City soon after and had been a resident of the area for the past 60 years. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and leaves behind a son, Fredrick W. McDonald, Jr. of Lansing, Kan.; three daughters, Mrs. Faith Klingensmith of Gladstone, Mrs. Sharon Fryatt of Independence, and Mrs. Sheila Kelley of Gladstone; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two beloved cats. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Englewood Baptist Church.
