Walter Terry

Walter Carl Terry, 86, Overland Park, KS, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Monday, May 23, 2005 at his home. Funeral services were held 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 26, 2005 at St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church, Kansas City, MO. Burial in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Crossroads Hospice or St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church. Walter was born December 30, 1918 in Minneapolis, MN and received his BS degree from the University of Maryland, and MS degree from George Washington University. He was also a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. Walter served his country on active duty in the Army from 1942 and retired as Colonel in 1968. He continued his service after that as a civil servant as the Associate Assistant Secretary for Administration, Director of Data Administration, and Director of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, US Dept of Labor. Walter was awarded the legion of Merit and Decoration of Meritorious Civilian Service. He is survived by: wife of 61 years, Meredith: son & daughter in law, Philip & Jean Terry; daughter & son in law, Tamah & Eric Swenson: grandson, Jonathan & Christopher Swenson. Walter will be deeply missed and remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, devotion to his family and this prayer, ?God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.?
