Wendell Higgins Benton

Wendell Higgins Benton, age 95, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022. Visitation will be held Saturday, 10:00 am – 11:00 am, January 22, 2022 at Lee’s Summit Christian Church, 800 N.E. Tudor, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 am at Lee’s Summit Christian Church. We are wanting everyone who attends to stay safe so we ask that you mask.

Wendell was born on October 13, 1926 in Johnson County, MIssouri. He graduated from Paseo High School in 1944.  Wendell served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947. Wendell married Betty on September 25, 1948.  He worked at Kansas City Power and Light Company for 38 years retiring in 1985. Wendell was a long time member of the Ararat Shrine of Kansas City, MO. Until 2020, he served in the Provost providing security once week to the Ararat Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty, of 70 years of marriage, his parents Gus and Nadine (Higgins) Benton and his younger brother Wayne (Bud) Benton.

Wendell is survived by his youngest brother Jason Benton (Joanne Campbell) of Benson, Arizona; Karen (Kent) Taylor of Lee’s Summit, MO; Janet Winterrose of St. Louis, MO; Grandchildren: H. Jeff Campbell of Independence, MO, Thomas (Jessica) Winterrose of St Louis, MO, Jennifer (Brad) Stamulis of Los Angeles, CA and Michael Campbell.  Wendell had 6 great grandchildren, Adon & Alex Stamulis, Adrianna Campbell and Lillee, Gavin and Zach Winterrose.

    I’m truly very sad and sorry to hear of your family’s loss. I hope that your grief turns sooner rather than later into memories of the joyous, fun occasions and times that you shared together with your fathergrandfather during his long life.

    Sorry I could not attend but due to Covid thought better. I am a first cousin to Wendall.I know he lived a good Christian life. We will always miss and remember him
