William Joseph ("Bill") Light 93, died peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at North Kansas City Hospital. Bill was born on August 23, 1914 in Newburgh, New York, the son of Mary and Joseph Light. He enlisted in the service and was part of the 7th Army during World War II. While stationed near Seattle Washington, he met the love of his live, Alta Powell. They were married on July 22, 1944 and he was sent overseas. Once he returned stateside, they relocated to the Kansas City area where they spent their 63 years of marriage. Bill studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and then served an apprenticeship as a sign painter. He joined TWA in 1955 and worked as a plant maintenance painter and technical illustrator. He retired in 1979 and enjoyed painting, spending time with his family and studying. He completed his Associate’s Degree at Maplewoods Community College in 1992. Bill was a talented artist and produced many pictures and special cards for family and friends. His love of God and family, sense of humor, and strong work ethic were hallmarks of his character that shaped his family and his life. The Mass of Christian Burial and Internment will be held at The Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal at 4947 N. E, Chouteau Drive, Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Church of the Good Shepherd Service Guild. Bill leaves behind his wife, Alta; daughter Holley Atkins, her husband John, sons Chris and Andy and granddaughter Madison, all of Kansas City; daughter Robin Clayton, her husband Cris, sons Kyle and Will, all of Burleson, Texas; and daughter Jodi Light, of Fort Worth, Texas.
