William Maxwell Schmill
August 3, 1929 – July 26, 2019
It is with great sadness, that the family of William Maxwell Schmill announces his passing on July 26, 2019 at Cox Medical Center, surrounded by his five children. Bill, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in Billings, MO. He lived 40-years in Belton, MO, where he raised his family. He retired from ATA bus company in Kansas City in 1994. He then worked part-time at the Belton Price Chopper, before finally retiring in 2011.Along with his five children, Bill has 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He followed their athletics, hunting, and other extra-curricular activities as they were growing up and attended as many events as possible. While he was never a hunter himself, he loved seeing and hearing all the stories his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren had to tell.
Bill was an avid PBR (Professional Bull Riding) fan. He enjoyed going to the Kansas City PBR with his whole family. To celebrate his 90th birth year, 37 family members and friends joined him to cheer on his favorite bulls and riders.
Bill always enjoyed family time. Some of the family’s fondest memories will be the fishing trips, Sunday car rides, and family holidays.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 50-years, Beverly Jean Schmill, his mother Mary Schmill, brother Charles Schmill, and grandson William Osborne.
Bill is survived by his children, Paula (Pat) Thell, Cathy (Ron) Spillman, Steve (Becky) Schmill, Susan (Larry) Young, and Jeff (Amy) Schmill. As well as his grandchildren, Rob and Jason Putthoff, Amy Osborne, Laticia, Stephany, and Amanda Schmill, Luke, Cory, and Sally Young, and Bryar, Hannah, Shyann, and Lundin Schmill. And his great-grandchildren, Brie, Tyler, Courtney, Charlie, Kyndal, Garret, Gabi, Colton, Casey, Dalton, Lexi, Tyler, Chloe, Max, Jasper, Jetson, Lane, Marley, Mak, and Hennessy. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and storytelling abilities. He will be missed dearly.

To all the family, So sad to lose such a great man and the best neighbor anyone could have. I have to share with you all a few things that are the best memories I have about this super, special guy: First off, I had ask and he ok’ed me to kiss him on the forehead..so I did each time I seen him. He was over one day and when he got ready to leave he stood at the front door, I didn’t know why, but when I went over and kissed him on the forehead..he was ready to go home then?
I broke my foot and he almost ALWAYS told me “you stay off that damn hill”. He was afraid I’d fall. He was very protective and could tell you when or if I was home.
He was a very loving and caring man..he was GOD’s gift to me and for that I am very thankful. My thoughts, prayers and love are to you all. #10, Glenda
