Windi Lea Vierkant passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. Windi was born on July 2, 1971 in Dubuque, Iowa to Glen Vierkant and Sue Harms Alt. Windi was a bright light in this world and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her big smile and joyful personality. Windi attended the Helen Keller school and lived in Dubuque until 1998 when her family relocated to Liberty, Missouri.
Windi loved holidays and counted down the days to Christmas and her birthday with the menus already in mind! Her birthday was especially important to her as it fell near the 4th of July and a party was held complete with friends, family, good food, presents, and fireworks! Windi never spent a day with idle hands. She was the consummate embroiderer for many years. She spent much of her time in her chair embroidering, a glass of gourmet iced tea by her side, while a DVD from her extensive collection played. She planned who each project was for, and her beautiful needlework hangs in the homes of family and friends to cherish.
Anyone who met Windi knew she was a true “Trekkie,” with a complete collection of every Star Trek series on DVD. She knew every episode and every character. Her Star Trek collection also included shirts, posters, blankets, magazines, and even Christmas decorations! She was the ultimate fan!
Windi is survived by her father Glen Vierkant and stepmother Molly Vierkant, her mother Sue Harms Alt and stepfather Robert Alt, sister Denali Pearce-Alt and brother-in-law Brian Pearce-Alt, nephews Thomas and Murphy Pearce-Alt, brother Jarret Alt, uncle Jerry Ruttman, uncle Erich (Rick) and aunt Sheila Vierkant, aunt Karen and uncle Ron Mills, uncle Kurt Vierkant, nephew Ian Alt and partner Katlyn Minard, and sister-in-law Julie Evans Alt.
Windi never met a stranger that didn’t quickly become a friend. She inspired us all with her cheerful disposition, delight in each day, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She exemplified the best in us. We will miss you every day, Vierkant Girl!
